DeVotchKa, “the most referenced band in advertising,” signs with Barking Owl
That’s right Creatives…that band you always tell your producer about but can never get…we got them.
Originally a backing band for local burlesque shows, Denver-based quartet Devotchka (which means ‘girl’ in Russian) is now joining forces with Barking Owl.
This multi instrumental group is known for using eclectic instruments like the theremin, bouzouki, accordion, sousaphone, tuba, and upright bass to name a just a few on their roster. Their lead singer, Nick Urata, received a Grammy nomination in 2006 for ‘Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture’ for Little Miss Sunshine. Devotchka has opened for a wide range of talents from Belle and Sebastian to Gogol Bordello and Marilyn Manson. They wear formal attire on set and regularly include aerial artists, belly dancers and video effects to accompany them on stage. So, it seems they’d be amazing in front of the camera as well as providing a original score. Get to work, Creatives!
