Pet Gorilla teamed with Apple, Inc., to create some beautiful, emotional, and uplifting mini documentaries to demonstrate how their Accessibility technology in all iOS devices helps people with special needs live life to the fullest every day.
In “Girl Talk,” award-winning documentarian Joris Debeij captures life of Meera, an adopted homeless child from India with severe speech disabilities, that communicates via her iPad. Her joy for life is inextinguishable and inspirational. She has a lot to say (including a cute joke) and now everyone can hear her, thanks to her iPad’s technology and various apps that give her a voice.
In “Northern Flicker,” Corbett Jones of directing duo Rau/Jones gives us an intimate glimpse of a man feeling the healing power of nature…unique because this man, Ian, is a quadriplegic in a wheelchair controlled by his breath…who uses his iPhone Siri and switch controls to access an app of bird calls. The piece is just magical.
In all there are seven films featuring amazing and very special humans….Meera, Ian, Andrea, Patrick, Shane, Todd, and Carlos. The projects were produced over 2 weeks with two different directing crews traveling to over 8 different cities to capture these stories. Pre-interviews during the casting process helped the team find the best stories, with Joris Debeij acting as creative director and setting the style and treatment ahead of time.
