Nonfiction Signs Abby Fuller, Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi!
Imagine climbing sheer rock face in unrelenting cold. You’re trying to reach the summit, hoping the weather holds. If you look down, you see sheer rock and air. And, by the way, you’re beautifully filming the climb the entire time. You might be professional alpine climber, skier, director, and photographer Jimmy Chin. In co-directing Meru, he did just that. His addition to the Nonfiction roster adds a huge first person edge to their already robust extreme sports repertoire.
Speaking of extreme: Chai Vasarhelyi, co-director on Meru and on Nonfiction projects with Jimmy, burns with determination to understand and share people. Beyond the beautiful stories she eased out of the reserved alpine climbers in Meru, her adventures have taken her deep into places like Kosovo and Senegal. Where most would run away, she jumped into the heat of Senegal’s tense 2012 democratic election, featured in her film Incorruptible.
And speaking of heat, Nonfiction is back in the kitchen with “Chef’s Table” Season 3! And they’ve added director Abby Fuller to their roster, the youngest and only female director on the show. Abby’s work with food on the show is gorgeous, and her connection with the chef’s work and driving passion makes you a chef watching it. Her incredible ability to capture the indomitable nature of the human spirit shines through all of her work, whether her subject is an accomplished chef, an underground aerialist, or blind youth rocking out on the drums and shredding it at the skate park.
